I just finished watching Don Jon, a film written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The IMDb profile says the movie is about: A New Jersey guy dedicated to his family, friends, and church, develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and works to find happiness and intimacy with his potential true love.
But really, the movie is about how men [in general] develop unrealistic expectations from watching porn and how women [in general] develop unrealistic expectations from watching romantic movies. In both types of media, everyone is pretending (as they say in the film). This film is spot-on and couldn’t be more relevant.
HAPPINESS & INTIMACY are so important, which is why this movie is important. Don Jon shines a spotlight on all the fakers out there who are just going through the motions. Find someone you can open up to and be real with. That is where true happiness lies.
